How To: Double Denim

By Farran-Jade

It’s that old age rhetorical question: Should you or shouldn’t you double up on your denim?

Here at Cinnamon headquarters we are of the opinion that twice as much of denim is twice as good.

With the fear of looking like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake at the 2001 VMA awards, wearing matching head-to-toe light wash, out of our minds. Horrible!

Thanks to celebrities such as Kendall Jenner, Alexa Chung & Miranda Kerr among other A-listers who are sporting this look and getting it right. We don’t think this denim on denim craze is going anywhere and we can’t seem to get enough.

We have created a list of do’s and don’ts, so that you can nail this look with full marks.

  • Balancing act: The secret to this trend is balance. A great light denim top looks great with a darker denim bottom. It is about knowing your body and flattering your shape with the right hues. A light denim will create attention to the areas they cover and the darker shades will create a more slimming effect. Pair those ultra flattering skinny denims with a cute denim tank. That’s a perfect balance if you ask us.
  • Weigh it out: No pairing the same weight denims nor the same distress textures together. It can easily leave you looking like you are on your way to the rodeo. Yee haa
  • Break it up: Pair your denim look with a great piece of accessory. A stunning black leather belt or even a slouchy black bag. The accessories you pair with it can switch it up from what could otherwise be a casual outfit. Please ditch the floral or super colourful accessories. Keep it bold yet understated. Balance remember. 😉
